Sketchbook: Flamingo Skull.

On a rainy Saturday afternoon in San Diego, Juliana and I had a fantastic time meandering around the San Diego Museum of Natural History.  There was a floor designed for each of us.  The entire third floor displayed over 200 skulls while the lower level held an exhibit dedicated to gems.

Flamingo Skull (Ink in Moleskine sketchbook applied with Winsor&Newton Series 7 #2 brush, 5x4").

Is this really a flamingo skull? Excellent sketch. Pardon me but I haven't seen a flamingo's skull before. It looks very strange.

Thanks for your compliments on my sketch! It is indeed a flamingo skull -- I thought that it looked very strange and disconnected at first too. Our local natural history museum is having an exhibit of over 200 animal skulls. It was fascinating -- especially to see how some skulls look exactly like the animal (turtles, beaver) and others seem disassociated at first (a donkey skull for example... or the flamingo).
