Art Of The Zodiac Art Show.

I had a great time participating in last night's "Art of the Zodiac" show held for one night only at Bar Basic downtown and curated by Thumbprint Gallery.

I had three pieces in the exhibit:

Lion Skull (Leo).  Ballpoint pen and watercolor on paper. 6.5x4.5"

Ram Skull (Aries).  Ballpoint pen and watercolor on paper mounted on wood. 8x6"

The Maiden (Virgo). Watercolor and pencil on paper mounted on wood.7x8"

Sketchbook: Christa.

Christa (Acrylic ink and watercolor in Moleskine sketchbook, 5x8").  Applied blue, raw sienna, and black acrylic ink via airbrush.  Used opaque watercolors over the top.  I had a difficult time getting this to accurately scan.  I included a camera shot at the end to give a different reference point than the scanner (first image).

Here is the original pencil sketch:

I airbrushed the sketch with cyan, raw sienna, and black acrylic inks.

And here is the final image taken via camera:

Sketchbook: Brown Bear Skull.

Brown Bear Skull (Acrylic ink and watercolor in Moleskine sketchbook, 8x5").

I was surprised and excited to have received an airbrush kit over Christmas as I'd been eyeing them for the last couple of months.  I have a tendency to neglect backgrounds and thought an airbrush would help create an interesting atmosphere.  I had this brown bear skull pencil drawing sitting in my Moleskine sketchbook, and decided to take the airbrush to it.  I loaded the airbrush with a diluted blue acrylic ink mixture and covered the background and lightly filled in mid-tone parts of the foreground.  I proceeded to finish the rest in watercolor.  I had a great time using the airbrush and am curious to see where I take it.
